Pay with Your Face to Take Metro at These Station!

It is reported that Guangzhou has adopted facial recognition technology since last Monday in two of its metro stations, allowing for fast and easy entrance. 

New Method of Payment

Instead of using tickets or swiping their smartphones, passengers can smile at a screen to unlock the electric gates in about half a second after completing a real-name registration on Guangzhou Metro’s official mini-program or on the “Guangzhou Metro” mobile app. 

 

The fee will be deducted from the payment methods that metro riders previously register and validate through their mobile phones. 

Where Can I Use it?

The system has been installed at Canton Tower station on Line 3 and APM, and Tianhe Smart City station on Line 21 before being expanded for use across the city in the future. 

How to Use?

To enable the facial recognition payment feature at either station, passengers will need to: 

 

1. Register their personal information in the Guangzhou Metro Mini Program on WeChat or Guangzhou Metro App; 

    

2. Bind a payment method to ride.
